SoundEdit

For Wave Editor, Sample Manager, Triumph, Myriad and Loop Editor users

You used our editors. Here's what we built next.

SoundEdit is a new audio editor for the Mac, from the makers of Wave Editor and Sample Manager: an editor you play like an instrument, with a Library that opens any folder of sounds as a list you hear from the keyboard. Pro measures every sound in it, plays it in your key and tempo, writes what you fix into the files themselves, and makes kits for the sampler on your desk.

Wave Editor and Triumph

The editor is where Wave Editor's ideas went: Ingredients play sounds live over the untouched original until you Reduce them; plug-in chains live in the file's History; every step survives quit.

Try first

  1. Open a sound, then ⌥-drag a second one from the Finder onto its waveform. It plays live as an Ingredient on its own lane, and Reduce mixes it into the file when you're ready.
  2. Choose Process ▸ Slots ▸ Choose Plug-in… and type a few letters of an Audio Unit's name; up to eight run on the file.
  3. Quit, open the file again and press ⌘Z: every step is still there, and the plug-ins come back with it.
  4. Or start with Help ▸ Open Demo Session: a loop that already carries its History.

Sample Manager

The Library is where Sample Manager's ideas went: any folder, right where it sits, heard from the keyboard, with batch work that runs on the rows you've chosen. With Pro, a Details pane (we call it INFO) edits a whole selection at once, and every column fills with measured loudness, tempo and kind of sound.

Try first

  1. Choose File ▸ Open Folder in Library… and pick a folder of sounds you already have. The arrow keys audition each one, m plays the armed sound from your keyboard, and Return opens it in the editor.
  2. With Pro, TEMPO, NOTE, IS and LUFS fill in as each sound is measured. Click LUFS to sort by loudness, or type tempo 80-110 to keep the loops in that range.
  3. With Pro, select a few rows, press i for INFO and set ROOT once for all of them. Type write and press Return: the band names the chunks it will write, and Return writes them into the files. ⌘Z puts the files back byte for byte.

Myriad

Pro's Recipes are where Myriad's ideas went: steps and plug-in chains over a whole folder, heard A/B before you commit, every result a new file and your originals as they were, with a report of every file.

Try first

  1. Open a folder in the Library, choose Library ▸ Recipes… and press Return on one to stage it on your selection.
  2. Press \ on a row to flip it between its source and its result.
  3. Press ⌘⏎: the band sums up the run, and Return starts it. Library ▸ Show Last Run Report shows what happened to every file.
  4. To make your own, edit one file the way you want them all, then choose File ▸ Save History as Recipe…

Loop Editor

Loops, slices and pads: chop a loop to your pads, play it at any tempo, and, with Pro, find a loop point for a multisample.

Try first

  1. Open a loop and choose Slices ▸ Chop into Slices (/): it's cut at every hit.
  2. Turn on Slices ▸ Slice Play Mode and play the slices from your keyboard or a MIDI pad controller.
  3. Process ▸ Stretch to BPM… sets it to any tempo, its pitch kept.
  4. With Pro, select a set of sustained notes in the Library and press x: SoundEdit finds each note's loop points. e, then Return, makes the multisample.
